A Palestinian woman
of Christian background from Jordan, Hanan Kattan has broken down the barriers
imposed by Middle Eastern culture and tradition to become not only a successful
business woman, but a film producer with her own production company – producing
and selling two feature films back-to-back without any prior experience in the
film industry.
Hanan successfully
shepherded her debut film, “I Can’t Think Straight” through the script stage
and into financing before attaching a talented cast and crew and running the
project through production.
“The World Unseen” has already gone on to win seven awards to date, was selected into the
Toronto film festival’s prestigious Discovery section for the world premier and
has picked up 10 nominations at the South African Film and Television Awards.
To add to the list of achievements, Hanan, along her business and life
partner, Shamim Sarif, also takes on the task of handling all her own film
sales via their company Enlightenment Films and have created their own music
label, Enlightenment Records, to release the film sound tracks.
The World Unseen and I Can’t Think Straight will be released in USA and
Canada in November 2008. The World Unseen is scheduled for release in South
Africa early 2009.
